I commend you for sharing your honest opinion as to why these books' reputations are inflated, which I respect and share in the case of Manson's book. But the highlighted sentence is where you tip from your subjective preferences to a normative "You shouldn't waste your time with these books." After all, if you had followed someone else's list of overrated books, like Dan Brown's Da Vinci Code, you'd have missed out on one of your favorites.

I know you aren't suggesting these books should be taken on the shelves or somehow the world would be better if they had never been written. You say as much towards the end, so I'm not trying to make a mountain out of a molehill. But if there's one line I'd have edited out of this engaging article, it's that one.
