Thank you. I always used the pronoun "him" to make clear I'm talking about male teachers, but your comment made me realize that a few clarifications, esp. at the beginning of the article, would avoid any confusion.
I've avoided the phrase "male teacher" as clunky and wordy, and also to leave open the possibility that there are women spiritual teachers who have been sexually abusive of students. None turned up in my research.
Nearly all of my teachers have been women. None have ever been charged with sexual misconduct. I have, however, witnessed manipulative and emotionally abusive behavior by them, though.
