Why Medium Is Perfect for Mindfulness

Desperate for claps? Checking your stats to see how many people read? Hoping for comments telling you that you’re a great writer?

I come across lots of articles on this site talking about how their numbers are down or Medium isn’t what it used to be. They might lodge complaints about the algorithm or curating or listicles.

Not surprisingly, I also come across what seems like an endless stream of articles about how to write a viral piece, or how you made so much money from a single piece, whose audience are the people from the previous paragraph.

Has Medium changed? Yes, it has. As with any social media platform, when the pool gets larger, it’s harder for any one person to reach as many people. Early adopters were able to build large followings. But if you pay attention to how many claps they get, you can see that having six figures of followers often still doesn’t get you over the 1000-clap mark. They’re struggling too.

But that change makes Medium a wonderful opportunity for mindfulness. It’s not necessarily a wonderful place to learn about meditation or mindfulness. There are plenty of articles talking about the practice, but the vast majority tend to talk about what an author…
